Here are two great free resources to help people in your faith community with computer problems: 1) TeachParentsTech, and 2) Windows Problems Recorder.
TeachParentsTech.org is a website created by Google to encourage children and grandchildren to help their parents and grandparents by emailing them how-to videos covering simple tasks in the following categories: basic skills (e.g. making screen text larger or smaller), how to surf the World Wide Web (e.g., how to make bookmarks), communication skills (e.g., how to video chat), media skills (e.g., how to share photos), and finding information (e.g., how to get driving directions.) In each category there are eight videos covering specific tasks, making a total of 40.
If you’re looking for a way to get older and younger people together in your community of faith, here is a great tool! How about choosing a special day for the kids to email their parents or grandparents, and then, sharing feedback about the outcomes? At TeachParentsTech.org Google wisely made these videos LARGE for older eyes. Check out the sample video below (which is much smaller) to get a flavor of this wonderful free teaching resource.
The second resource for computer problems is more technical than educational, namely, Windows 7 Problem Recorder, a program built into the Windows 7 operating system. If you’ve ever had to try to explain to a tech rep what went wrong with your computer, this is the resource for you! Windows 7 Problem Recorder makes a video record of what your computer does which leads up to the problem. It then compiles that record in a file that you can send by email to that guy on the phone who’s trying to help you. It will make his job and your wait much easier.
